I like the P-lip and a Pete without a p-lip just doesn't seem right to me. I have about 15 -16 now, all estates, in every shape and size, including some old rusticated meers and one that was sold to me as a meer but might be clay - most p-lips , all enjoyed. Once you get used to a p-lip, its a very nice change from the regular fishtail and it does give your tongue a rest when things get a little leathery.
edit: when I checked found four Petes that weren't p-lips, my bad

Pros- Different angle is good for a change up as it typically lessens tongue bite for me
Cons- Pipe cleaners tend to be a bit more fidgity with the P-Lips

Draw isn't quite as good as the Peterson fishtails

I got one from my ole buddy Kabong. Where the heck has he been??? I use it when I've allowed mt tongue to be bitten. Othere than that, I prefer a fishtail stem, or a double barrel.

I have both P-lip and fishtail Pete's. At first, I didnt like the p-lip because the stem is thicker and I wasn't used to that. But the more I used the p-lip the better I liked them. Especially at work, where I tend to clench more, and for me, it seems to keep saliva out of the bowl a little better, and that is my experience with them. So if You dont like the p-lip at first, at least give it a chance like I did. Then again, You may like it first try. All the Petes I buy now have the p-lip. :puffy:

I opened the draw hole as Mr English suggested, at first a small pipe cleaner was hard to pull thru, after working on it with a small round hobby file it passed thru very easy, worked on it a little more and big cleaner went thru with a little resistance but I was satisfied, this is my first alcohol/salt job of a system pipe, boy was it dirty, not a lot of coke but gunky crap, I believe I will have to do a second salt job, that being said I put the stem in my mouth and it was comfortable but that is without the weight of the pipe, I believe I will like it for the advice given on tongue bite, I have had it but not often , THANKS for all the advice I put great store in you fellows, couldn't"t do it without you all. Well let's see a pic. I love plips. I just restored a 1945 era Peterson, smoked it this week, and it is a perfect smoker. I prefer a big fat wide plip to the more narrow version though.

My twin bore smokes very smooth and cool. It may be the briar too. I have to agree with the cleaning Rothnh. Very big PITA. I rarely use the pipe anymore. It is not in my normal 6 pipe rotation. To be honest, My favorite pipe by far is a Guildhall 215. It is like a Peterson System. I usually break the stinger off my stems, but I left this one alone. The pipe has a "sump" and draught channel. It is a great pipe for Virginias. takes most of the bite away and is very forgiving.

I have eight Petes. Only one lacks the P-lip, and it's the little Belgique. I think the P-lip makes for a slightly different experience on a bent pipe, but on a straight it seems to be a non-issue.

I have a Beautiful Savinelli Pot, with a Cumberland stem. I smoke it about once a Month. It has the P-lip. It is a dam shame too, because it is too nice a pipe to sit in the rack.

I have a P Lip Tankard. I like the pipe but I do not care for the P Lip at all. It can sometimes be a chore to get a pipe cleaner through it while having a smoke. I also don't like the fact that I have to have the stem that much further in my mouth while smoking. If I could get a Tankard as a fishtail I would grab it in a heartbeat.

mk, just have a new stem put on it and you will have what you want. I have found that when there is just one little thing wrong with a pipe, it will sit on my rack.

The majority of my Pete's are p-lips but I have a couple fishtails. I like them both. I've not tried opening the hole up but that's something I think I will try. The restricted draw of the p-lip is the only problem I have with them.
