I like them on my Petersons. I wouldn't say I prefer them over a regular stem, but they are part of the experience for me on those particular pipes.

I have a Peterson Canadian that has the pLip... cant say im the biggest fan of it, but Im a fast smoker and it tends to "bite" the roof of your mouth if you go too fast.

I wish you luck... I tried but just never enjoyed smoking a pipe with one. Many do however so maybe you will. :puffy:

Cons are restricted air flow on most of them and they take a big getting used to as the pipe extends a bit further into the mouth due to the design. Might not bother you but it took some getting used to for me.
Pros, easier to clench with the little lip, if you have tongue bite you can smoke them without irritating the tongue as much. Good if you are clencher.
To open up the lip, just take a drill bit and gently rotate it around the hole. The reduced air flow is from the hole, so when its opened up a bit, it will smoke fine. Some people take a needle file and then smooth out the hole. Just be careful you do not drill thru the bit and make a hole on the bottom side.
I used to not like the p-lip but after smoking them for awhile, it makes no difference to me if its p-lip or fishtail. It's just part of the Peterson experience.

I tried one, can't say that I liked it. I think I could get used to it if forced to. My complaint is that it forces the smoke directly to the roof of your mouth whereas the fishtail enters where ever you point it - so it's more versatile and the smoke gets all over the mouth, not just the tongue.
With the P-Lip the roof of my mouth got hot and overly dry as it was just too direct.

I can take it or leave it. I have one Peterson, a B10 shape Kildare, with the P lip that I smoke regularly. I don't find it to have any real benefit for me over a regular fish tail. It does clench nicely in the teeth though.
My other Peterson (first pipe I ever owned) originally had a P lip on it as well but I ran a pipe cleaner through that actually got caught and broke off in there. I wound up having to send it off to someone to fix and by the time he would have had to straighten the stem and drill it out, it was cheaper to just replace the stem all together.

I actually like the Plip on the '79 305 that Chris gave me to me it's very comfortable to clench. A little harder to get a pipe cleaner into but not as hard as I expected.

I have several Petersons with the P-lip but I am ambivalent about that style. When I ordered a new Darwin ebony a year ago, I had it sent back to Dublin to have a fish-tail stem made for it before it was sent to me.

For me the P lip comfort depends a lot on the shape of the pipe. For instance I really like my P-lip on a Pete 999 shape. Seems to fit in my mouth better. But a full bent I prefer the non P-lip it's almost like the full bent pipe pushes the P-lip up against the roof of my mouth and that can get sore after awhile. I smoke a pipe while I work so I am a clencher sometimes and don't always get the opportunity to hold my pipes. It's always a personal preference thing. I do agree that the older P-lips were smaller and more comfortable. I have a pre-republic Pete that's P-lip is half the size of the new ones. Not sure why Peterson chose to got this route and make them larger.

P lip - no tongue bite, but less flavor for me. I'm neutral on them; don't mind using them, but don't love them.

I like both. It is handy if you burn your tongue a bit one day you can switch to a plip for a day or two so your tongue gets a rest.

Same with the plip. I don't notice any flavor difference personally. The draw is ok for me but i may try opening it out at some point one.

a Peterson without a p-lip doesn't seem like a Peterson.. I won't buy a Peterson w/o a p-lip.
