While putting together an order with pipesandcigars.com, I found their "Best of the Rest" bulk bags. Anyone have any experience trying one? I do realize that no two bags will be the same, and that it could turn into a hit or miss, but whats the overall sentiment on it as far as the quality? This would put me over the $100 for free shipping, so $13.99 for 16oz of baccy is hard to beat.

I guess I should read more closely, I never noticed that offered before. :? I was even looking for "something" for an order filler today. That would have came in handing instead of doubling up on something else. It is a good price no matter what it is...I'll be curious on how it smokes.

I've ordered it before. It's not bad. Mine was probably all aromatic, and smelled like tropical fruit.

A buddy of mine gave me a sample of it to try. I found it to have a slight cherry flavor, with a very small among of Latakia in the background. It was definitely more aro than anything, but not too bad.

Thanks gents! I figured these were going to be the responses I would receive. I've only been smoking a pipe since the middle of summer, so I'm still at the "Try Everything" phase. I'll be adding a bag to my TAD order next week.

I like P&C and get most tobacco from them. As to your question, yes, it is inexpensive but what if you really like it? You'll never duplicate it.
Take a look at the Newminster line there. It isn't a whole lot more and has a fair variety to choose from

Here's "The Best of the Rest" that arrived yesterday from Pipesandcigars.com
It's moist and very aromatic. As in All Aromas mixed together. The smell isn't bad, except for a cloying strawberry-kind-of-odor. I have not had the time or inclination to try it yet. My thoughts are that I'll brave a taste, then probably put some in the convection oven and see if I can drive off some of the aromatics.
It's pretty much what i was expecting, only more so 8O

Haha! You never seem to know where these threads are going to end up.
Thanks for the feedback and pic woodsroad. It really does look fantastic. I like my aromatics probably more than I should so it looks like this will be in my order very soon.

I think it's a gamble, but if you take it that way, it's good sport. When I have mixed small amounts of various

tobaccos to use them up, the result is nearly always unpleasant. There is something about one two many

tobaccos in a "blend" that just comes up harsh. Adding one basic burley or Virginia to an OTC, however, can

distinctly improve the OTC. Simplicity in blends is often good. (Or mixes, since I'm not aging or pressurizing

these tobaccos, just mixing them.) So it's a gamble, and if the result is pleasant, you're the lucky winner.

I would think that a beginning pipe smoker would want to avoid this, for the reason stated above that you will never be able to replicate it if you really like it. I would prefer to spend my money on tobacco I can name, as I try to figure out what my favorites are. A veteran might know his (or her) half dozen favorites and wouldn't mind the occasional change of pace. Just my opinion. Carry on.
