Yeah I don't think there is any point in overspending just to try a blend like penzance. I mean 135 for 8oz to me is 10 tins of other blends that will be enjoyed and provide myself with a variety. I'm sure one day I will get to try these fabled blends but I not losing out on trying other stuff just to try these blends.

I would rather be a trend setter than a trend follower.
There are thousands of blends to try, and other than Pipestud and Jiminks I am assuming most of us still have a lot of undiscovered blends. Especially if you look at how different peoples tastes are it's not suprising you hear lots of "I tried A, B or C super hard to get tobacco and it's not all I heard it to be."
I have pursued these "hyped" blends and I have tried discovering my own jewels and other than Germains MBF, which is just heavenly I have had better luck following my own nose.

That's good advice Mr.Anglophile.
Sillem's London is one of my fave Lat blends,

never hear much about it,

but my nose found it,

and I love it.

If Dunhill EMP and 965 were to go out of production, there really would be no substitute. There are lots of "light Englishes" out there, but nothing quite like these.

In regards to Stonehaven, I have found that Mac Baren Old Dark Fired is the closest taste wise. ODF is not quite as sweet, but has more smokiness than Stonehaven, and I enjoy it very much.
Solani Silver Flake is not like Stonehaven other than it is a VA/Kentucky blend, but it is one hell of a good smoke.
I no longer smoke English blends so I cannot recommend annything similar to Penzance. Back when I was smoking Penzance on a regular basis, I never had to think of a substitute as it was always readily available. What I would do is start sampling all of the GL Pease English blends and see if there is something there you like. When I was smoking english blends, I found thaat no one did them better than Gl Pease or his line called Two Friends which is a collabotation with Craig Tarlar of C/D.
hiplainsdrifter, I find that Wessex Brown Flake and Brigham Klondike Gold to be fairly similar to JALF. I also enjoy Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake even more than the JALF so grab some of that if you have not tried it. It is readily available at SP.
