Measuring to get the right round band to re-shape to an oval seems like it could be tricky. Even

measuring for a round shank could encounter some sizing problems, since shanks and stems don't

come in uniform sizes. But if you could match the band and shank, it could really dress up some pipes.

The ones with designs are quite classy, and the plain ones, used well, could be sharp.

That is an interesting question. I don't have the band tool, so I've never made that kind of repair. I've seen on the Reborn Pipes blog, that Steve Laug has done diamond or square shank pipes. I assume the process for an oval is much the same.
