Depends on what you mean by "flavour".

If they suddenly decide to nuke Borkum Riff Cherry Gagger I'm probably not concerned. If we're talking about somehow making tobacco have zero flavour I'd have to seriously question how and with what chemicals that was accomplished and whether or not such things were safe to smoke.

The real answer to this question for me is going to depend on how all the famous Pipesmokers over the last 500 years would have answered the question.
" at one point his doctor told him to give it up, so he did. But he didn’t give up on the pipes themselves and he would fairly often stick an empty one in his mouth and just chew on it."

If I didn't get the flavor I expect from my blends I wouldn't bother smoking them. If I want nicotine I would smoke cigarettes. I have one cigarette with my morning coffee, one after dinner and one or 2 before bed. They all taste like shit compared to my pipes and if they didn't have nicotine in them I would never smoke them.

I mean if there was no stimulation of the taste buds and it had the same profile as steam. Another way you could look at it is would you still smoke a pipe if your taste buds all died and your smell receptors too.

Natural tobacco will always have flavor. I’d be fine with no aromatics on the market if that’s what they do. There are plenty of sweet and flavorful options available. And, if they zap pipes, I still have my cigars... and those offer good flavors as well - just not quite like a pipe can. But, if all tobacco were to be flavorless I’d probably stick with dip or chew - just because.

yeah I would stick with smokeless if there wasn't flavor. I like the flavor of snus and scents of snuff but those both I mainly care about the nicotine. With pipes or cigars it is honestly a more holistic experience where all the elements are important and not one could be removed without ruining the experience. And flavor is one of those components. If there was any one style of pipe tobacco that disapeared I'd miss it but still smoke (i.e. no more burly or Va or aros.)

Well that's not really fair! If all my tastebuds died I'd probably still smoke because you never know which bowl is the magical one that restores me and my little dog too back to Kansas. There is also the nicotine, I want my fix and I sure as hell ain't going back to the cancer sticks! Even though I sometimes will chew a pipe blend just to taste it I couldn't imagine using chew full time, must be hell on your gums and teeth. I don't mind a cigar now and then but if tobacco has been rendered tasteless, why bother?

I think my main bone of contention is that these types of threads always seem to be geared towards feeling out the reaction to tobacco cessation methods, like removing flavors or nicotine - to which I am diametrically opposed. Thus my opinion in these matters, as in most others, should be taken with a grain of salt. Anti-government salt.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We approach tobacco legislation backwards, ignoring the elephant in the room while removing it's food chain competitors.
