I’m really new to pipe tobacco . . . So I’m not sure my palate is experienced to give a review on any pipe tobacco yet, but I’ll share my 2 cents. . . .
Thanks for your 2 cents! Being new is good, too!! I'm new also, having not smoked for several decades until a year ago. Your experience is valuable to me because I'm sure it'll help me identify aspects that I haven't put a name to yet, as a pipe smoker. Thanks for sharing. I just noticed for the first time today that exhaling the pipe smoke on this blend of Double Down burley by Gand Croupier (a less expensive blend) burns my inner nostils (is this called retro-exhale or something?). BTW--I LOVE exhaling most heavy Latakia blends (I add big pinches of whole leaf Latakia to most of the Lat blends I smoke 'cause I like the smell in the jar and smoke flavor better).
kindly

Am I the only one trying Montfort Point Marine? It’s in the mail now and looking forward to it’s arrival. I’m a sucker for good marketing I guess and this one hits home. I am currently enjoying tasting English blends, but this burley has been begging me.
Yo, did you get a chance to try Montfort Point Marine?

Oops. I just ordered some in bulk with a bunch of other bulks. I guess I hope I like the deer tongue taste in everything.
Should be fine. It never bothered me coming in bulk with other blends, but I did send a run of burley samples to a mate in ziplocks and they all smelt like deer tongue.

If you haven’t seen already, quite a few people mix crooner with half and half (or equivalent) to remember the olden days.

Ah, I have that one on my "to-try" list. I am always on the lookout for stouter Latakia blends and the combination of Latakia and DFK in that one may fit the bill. I hope you will let us (or me) know what you think when you get to try it.

I have really grown to love Burley Flakes #1 and #3. #1 is a bit sharper, primarily dark Burley. Strong and delicious. #3, as @chefmike points out, is much smoother than it should be given its components. But it is also a banger in terms of strength. I've seen a few recent recs for Riverboat Gambler. I have not tried that one yet, despite its delightful name. Is on my list. If you're open to GL Pease blends (same blender and leaf), Barbary Coast is quite nice. C&D also makes a blend for Savinelli called Jupiter. It is similar in components to Red burn, but I think it tastes different, and is in flake form instead of crumble cake.

I didn't love C&D burleys at first, but the more I smoke them, the more essential they become for me.
Hahhaahaa....... You have managed to mention nearly all of my favorite blends in one post ?
I was a bit underwhelmed with Jupiter though.....

I just got my first tin of Riverboat Gambler a few days ago (based off the praise from a few guys here) and after a couple of bowls, I like it a lot. If you like Old Joe and Haunted Bookshop, I bet you will like RG too.
Never ventured into C&D burleys. This will be my first one. I have been getting into burley lately though and i think i will be liking it and trying more from them.

Right on! My only suggestion is to be prepared for a somewhat plainer flavor profile than most burleys made by other blenders. It took me an ounce or two of Old Joe to start discovering the nuances and appreciating what it had to offer. I now think they actually have more going on than a lot of other burleys, but they're just not as sweet.
