Hey everyone. I have been really fond of Orlik lately and have been thinking about ordering the 100g tins because I can save a few bucks. My question is, I’ve seen some reviews (I think from the UK) of the 100g tins being just 1 really long flake folded a bunch instead of the cut flakes seen in the 50g tin.
Does anyone in the US have any experience with the 100g tins available here and what are the contents like? Thanks in advance.

While I have not smoked the long version of Orlik, I don’t think a long flake would be an issue. A good example of a really long flake coiled into a spiral is Reiner Long Golden Flake (Gold Blend #71) I never had any issues smoking that, and is a favorite of many
Yea I assumed the flavor is the same. I just like knowing how many flakes (bowls) I have left in the tin. I'm not experienced enough to eyeball the same amount every bowl, so a precut flake really helps me have a consistent smoke bowl to bowl.

I think I understand what you are saying. You use a standard size flake as an unit to fill up your bowl.In that case, having a standard sized cut would help, but then, how will you determine how much you need when you are smoking a ribbon cut?

On the other hand, if you want to know how many smokes you have left, to plan your next tin purchase, just keep at least one (or more) in standby. I surely cannot tell how many smokes I have left, by looking in the tin (more so for Ribbon Cut)

Who's to say the standard size flake is the correct size for your bowl? If I tear off too much, I tear a bit off and put it back. Too little and I tear some more off the big one and stuff it in the bowl to fill it up. I think pipe smokers must set some kind of record for making simple shit complicated and stressful.

As a practical matter, do most users just tear off a piece or slice off the squares with scissors? The folded leaf sounds like a lesser presentation to me, but I have only bought the 50g tins. The cut rectangles are more appetizing to me.

I agree. Its’s not really an “issue” to me like some have said, but more of a appearance usability thing. It’s not really worth the $1 savings getting a long sheet. Maybe the $1 extra is worth it to me to just grab and go.

I tear off a bit and gently rub it out, same as I prepare any other flake. I like the occasional cube cut but usually can’t be bothered to do it.

The cut rectangles also make for great full length smokes in smaller sized pipes, whereas the folded flake would just open up a conundrum of choice anxiety ;)

I guess I never thought of this. To me it is not an issue but everyone is different and values different things. Absolutely there is not a huge savings and if it is more beneficial to not have to cut it up, the looks outweigh the savings, or convenience outweighs the savings then why not?
I guess you have the answer that works for you.

I’m working through a 2 yr old 100gr tin now. I threw it in a jar and usually give the jar a bit of a shake, spill out the loose stuff, then tear a section off - rub it all to consistency, fill and tip the shreds back in the jar. Once in a while, I’ll tear a section, wad it up and stuff it - but like it with either preparation. The big flake all rolled up is fun to look at tho...
