No one else will ever be able to cover FREE BIRD without sounding like pale imitators, some songs are just so tied to a certain sound, time and group that they are simply uncoverable.

I fee this way about the entire ZZ Top collection. The band is too smooth collectively, and individually, that I could never see another band appreciably covering anything of theirs.
Sorry I disagree, but then Happy Mondays are my era. I don't want to disparage the original as this is class, but I prefer The Mondays version.

I love The Jerry Garcia Band's cover of That's What Love Will Make You Do, but the original by Little Milton (James Milton Campbell, Jr.) is matchless...
