Seeing Cortez' mentions of Embarcadero in the WAYS threads got me curious to try it a few months back. I think it's pretty fantastic. It is very much a VA-based blend to my mind, but the Izmir leaf makes it a pretty substantial and unique variation from the usual VA and VaPer styles.

McC used to offer a number of VA-based blends with Or leaf, but I think maybe these blends were more common in yesteryear. I'm working on a tin of Temple Bar, which is a good tobacco, but I don't like it as much as Embarcadero.

Big fan of flakes and orientals as well. Sam's Flake is at the top of my want to try list, followed closely by Regent's Flake. Dunhill Ready Rubbed is a great VaTur although it's VA forward. I stand the broken flake pieces on end in the pipe so it smokes similarly to roughing and stuffing.

I’ll add to the recommendations for Embarcadero and Bijou. One under the radar blend is Low Country’s Waccamaw, which is a great VaPerOr broken flake

Flanagan by HU Tobacco is a flake with a fair amount of orientals. Highly recommended.
I looked up the HU Tobacco Flanagan on TobaccoReviews.com and it sounds really great since I also quite like the orientals. Is there a place to buy this from in the USA?

Some flakes I like (none are oriental-oriented but the newminster I mix up with a turkish ribbon successfully) .

Newminster #400 superior navy flake, yum yum price good.
Bobs choc flake, you either like it or you dont. I do.
Gawith & Ho brown flake w/ liquorice, delicious smoke and the liquorice flavour is very understated.

Isaac.
