Hi!

I have come to really enjoy the form of flake tobacco (not krumble kake though, can't get that to work at all).

Do you have recommendations on an oriental flake? Perhaps a perique flake too (Golden Sliced or is that too virignia forward?) Currently I love Peterson's Irish Flake for burley, but I am open for some other recommendations of another nice Burley flake. For latakia I have Balkan Flake which I like.

Thanks!

Vaper: Sam Gawith St. James Flake, Reiner Golden, Rattray's Marlin Flake
Burley: Solani Aged Burley Flake and MacBaren HH Burley Flake
Oriental: No goddamn idea.

I like GLP's Embarcadero: red Va and Izmir; but I always rub it out.

He also produced Regent's flake, which I don't care for; but here's the blurb:

Regents Flake starts as a base of red and bright Virginia leaf, seasoned with generous amounts of fine Oriental tobaccos. A very small percentage of perique is added to enhance the fruitiness of the Virginias, as well as to work its magic amplifying some of the lovely exotic, almost floral qualities of the orientals. Pressing and aging in cakes brings out the best of the leaf, after which the blocks are cut and sliced into flakes. The aroma is rich, malty, fruity and just a little earthy. In the bowl, beautiful Virginia flavors, subtly sweet, are enhanced by the spice and sweet/tart character of the orientals, and the room note is wonderful.

Temple Bar is made from the same components, but optimized as a plug version of Regents Flake.

Not a ton of Oriental Flakes. C&D Sun Bear when it comes out again is a good one. Sam's Flake if you can handle the Tonkin Bean topping. Dan Tobacco Ascanian No 1 is a nice one that is a broken flake. C&D Bijou is a bit under the radar and I find it to be quite good. GLP Gaslight is very good and comes in a plug form. Already mentioned, HU Flanagan is superb. HU Joschi's Oriental Sunrise is very good and is a broken flake.

The best were McClelland's Matured Virginia No. 24, Pebblecut and Butera Blended Flake.....obviously no help now. Pease Embarcadero is probably my favorite available VA/OR flake. The VA/OR seems to be an also ran with people, though they are my favorite.
There are so many good VA/PERs, it just depends on what ratio you want. Mine are Escudo and St.James.

SG's Kendall Collection: Sam's Flake is my absolute favorite tobacco. Oriental flake - it's got this subtle sweetness/earl grey tail that's really superb.

I scored a couple tins recently and I’ve been smoking it at least every other day. Didn’t care for 1792 at all but this stuff is marvelous.
I’ve found if I dry it out fully the oriental comes through more noticeably.

1792 is way too strong, I've never really enjoyed it either.
