That's a truly distinctive pipe, with metal work, the unique stem, and jewels. I've debated with myself whether jewels
have a place on a pipe, and other adornments of various kinds. For example, I'm not favorable when they do the little
metal plaques announcing that a pipe is the pipe of the year. But this situation is entirely different, in that the jewel settings
and metal work are done by you, in memoriam for your family members. In that situation, all of the extra work on the
pipe, and the exotic materials are entirely appropriate. I don't think I'd ever be working with sapphires or rubies; I've
more pondered semi-precious stones, and whether they would "go" as additions to pipes, just as decoration. I'm still
unsure. I like the expense put into the actual pipe materials as a general practice. But that's a different question.
