I don't have this in hand yet so this photo is all I can share. It was advertised as a Medico White Briar with Real Amber stem but I'm not so sure it's briar or amber. Thoughts guys?

When I blow the picture up, the inside of the bowl looks like briar?? Plus it has the design on the bow that doesn't look like a carving you'd see on a meer??

From what I see, I say briar.

The amber looks more like a plastic
I think it might be, too. The seller has a good rating and return policy so if it's unsatisfactory I'll at least have the option to get a refund.
I'm not sure about the briar or not; there doesn't seem to be any clear markings in the other photos to say the maker. I hope it ends up that it isn't briar to be honest.

I say white briar. I've bought two Petersons from the guy in the past and he's pretty accurate in his descriptions, plus easy to work with. This is an eBay purchase from the guy in NJ that has his pipes posing on an ashtray, right ?

Hurry, hurry, hurry! Step right up!
White washed briar or the stone of sea foam Meer?
The oh so fragile translucent fossilized resin stem of amber or hardy plastic?
Betting starts at ----!

It's shipped so time will soon tell what I got! Pretty anxious either way as I would like either really.

Looks to me like the seller really didn't know what he had. I'd say it's an 'amber colored' lucite stem and

a pressed meerschaum bowl. (Let us know when you get it).

I'm not convinced on the bowl, but I'm leaning towards meer because of the way it has collected dirt around the bowl. I'm 99% sure the stem is not amber. It looks more modern than the bowl, I'd say a good chance its a replacement.

Yeah it's gotta be briar, Meer doesn't have those variations in it... and besides, briar can easily be that pale colored if there isn't any stain used ... Savinelli has a "natural" line that is very much the same color.
Real amber stem? HeckifIknow, but that would make it VERY uncommon if it were.

Kaywoodie used to make a line of pipes called white briar, which was just painted briar. I'm 99% sure this pipe is like that. Also, I would be amazed if that stem was amber, its way to transparent, looks more like plastic to me. I'm not putting it down at all, its a fine looking pipe.

Being pretty much a neophyte in this hobby still, I was t sure if the stem was going to be amber or not but seems like it probably isn't from the thoughts you guys are giving. And I'd hoped to know, have it in my hands, by today or tomorrow but that doesn't look like its going to happen either: just checked the tracking number and my $6.95 shipping got me first class not priority mail. From across the country, it'll probably be mid next week before I get it. I'm feeling a little less satisfied than when I clicked the purchase button…

Oh well, you live you learn!
I've been bitten a few times by the 'Bay that's for sure...
It does look like white briar with a plastic stem to me but hopefully it'll still pan out as a good smoker/project for you.

Regardless Greg...... I know the stem isn't amber - amber isn't transparent. But whether the bowl is

press meerschaum or brier, I don't see any reason it shouldn't be a good smoker....

When she gets there... clean her up, load a bowl and smoke her!

Kaywoodie white briar didn't look like that even when it is super nasty dirty its still white, not colored like that. I had one that looked like it was stored in a coal shoot and it was still a very white white shining through, I'm sticking with meer.

Been out of town with no Internet ot cell service so just now able to let you all know what it was: a pressed meet. However, the tenon was broken loose from the stem and stuck in the mortise. I informed the seller and they asked Irving wanted to return it. I said let me see Irving can fix it and I'll get back to you. I put it inthe freezers for s few hours hoping it would loosen it but it didn't. Then I promptly dropped the dumb thing and the shank broke into about 50 pieces. Long story short, the seller stepped up and is replacing the pipe at no charge to me at all. I was very surprised how well this all turned out and will buy from them again in the future.
