Opinions on Semois

Was a big semois smoker for a few years - though never bought anymore thereafter
I was smoking the shag type of Manil
Was wondering La Bremuese vs La Volute -
I hear that La Volute was not as great as everyone expected
Never had Petite Robin and was on the fence about that one, as it was mentioned as a mild smoke overall
Which brick is the one to get in 2021?

Semois.. Seminole.. Semois.. Seminole.. I think the name is too similar. Unless they bring back Chief Wahoo, I think we need to change Semois to something else.

It's a region in belgium - wouldn't be surprised if the french gave the tribe the name

Main difference is the cut with the exception of Petit Robin. That latter blend tasting much different and being the consistency of moss.

can you describe what the latter reminds you of? can you compare it? do you get a hint of a taste of the semois?

To my palate it tastes like bread and burley. Has Burley, Kentucky and Virginia. It doesn't really remind me of anything that I've smoked. Unique for sure.

Seminole(runaway) was given to the groups of indigenous people that fled from European and Native battles to live in peace. Semois is a river in Belgium, the source of the Semois tobacco.

I only had Reserve du Patron and La Volute. Happened to like the last better.

Had all three versions of Manil Semois. Didn’t do anything for me. I’m not much of a burley smoker. I’m a Virginia kind of guy.

I've smoked three of the Semois blend and found them all okay but lacking in flavor.

My first "brick" of La Brumeuse Semois tasted like tobacco for the gods, the richest, juiciest burley I'd ever experienced, with a cigar-like subtext that transported me to a realm of nicotinic ecstasy that I had never reached before or had known existed. The second brick, not so much. I thought it was bland, boring, and I tossed it. I think this says more about me than it does about the Semois. But I might try it again. The first experience remains vivid.

Semois is weird. It's blunt yet subtle. You have to savor it to really enjoy it. Not something to casually smoke. Or at least that's my opinion. It only opens up when you give it your full attention. I suggest drinking three snifters of brandy and then finding a place to watch the stars while enjoying the Semois.
