Foggy: Glad to hear you're going to keep looking for an Autograph.
@mlyvers that pipe is a beauty!

Savinelli usually offer great value, IMHO. I have a few, from low-end to high, but they're all very well-made and the ones I've tried are very good smokers, too. The only reason I don't own more is their balsa-filter. It works allright but like any filter, I think it's a hassle. The black ball is a recent addition to my rotation: I'm growing a sweeter tooth so I needed a fresh pipe and this one had been eyeing me for a long time. It's every bit as good as I thought it would be. The '93 POY is still waiting for the right excuse.

I finally made a decision and ordered a Savinelli Golden Jubilee billiard from Europe. These are supposed to be their absolute top of the line pipes, which I have not been able to find for sale in the US. I hope to have it in about a week and a half and will report on it here, with pictures if my Canon can be wakened into action.

Good to hear Foggy - I look forward to hearing how it smokes.

"High Grade" Savinellis are good pipes. Actually all savinellis are good pipes imho, and represent pretty fair value throughout their lines.
I have a couple autographs I really like. They are kind of a weird pipe to get used to - usually big and clunky, sometimes the shaping is a little eccentric. They smoke incredible though. The briar is very, very good on these pipes.
The Giubilios and Puntos etc are a little more "english" in execution - more symmetric and standard, but again very good quality overall.
If you offered me an unsmoked Dunhill or an unsmoked Autograph, and I couldn't see the pipes beforehand.... I'd choose the Autograph. They smoke that good.

Golden jubilee=Giubileo D'Oro. They are a step below the autograph but above the Punto Oro (Gold Dot) if my facts are straight. Should be a great pipe. I have an old Punto Oro and it's one of my top 5 smokers.

That's the way I read it too: the giubilios are top-grade briar in factory shapes, and the Autographs are freehands.
The new Autos have lucite stems which are really nicely cut.

I have three Savinellis, all estate pipes. Two smoke great, and the third is sitting in the post office after being restored by Mike at Walker pipe repair. The third is an Autograph grade 000 and I can't wait to try it out tomorrow. Also I contacted Savinelli, and through their American distributor they sent me a new velvet box and pipe sack for the Autograph, and all I had to pay was $6.00 shipping.
