Actually that's just his internet persona. I suspect he's more of a top hat and tails kind of a guy...... opera on Friday, symphonies on Saturday and all day Sunday at "the club" where he passes the day with cognac and cigars ..... hahahahahahaha

I don't know but what there might have been some tongue 'n cheek about "proper attire." What, should we all wear overalls and sit on front porches in rockers when we smoke MMs? My Dad smoked in his lab office, back in the day a drugstore cherry wood pipe. That damned thing had so much lab tape (like athletic tape) wrapped around it holding it together that I referred to it as his "meerschaum". The tape took on color nicely ...

I think the point is, in private we wear what we are comfortable with and according to the situation. My Dad would smoke while working our small sort of hobby farm of 70 acres ... he was not in a business suit. I sit in my favorite chair watching TV smoking a pipe wearing sweats ...

Folks, well ... you swing in your tree and I'll swing in mine (Big and Rich)

I get that for a lot of people making a YouTube video is away for them to share a pipe with someone as most of us don't have a smoking buddy. I did it for a lot of years, and I tried to share knowledge about things, tell stories and share blend reviews. There is always someone that will like what you have to say, and many more that will find fault with what you say. For me it was away to interact with a lot of people, because for a long time I had no one to share a pipe or a cigar with. Now I have a friend that I hang out almost weekly with, and have been doing so for the past 7-8 years.

I haven't posted or even watched pipe or cigar video in years. It got boring watching every new person come in and share their review of blend x. After seeing 800 videos on blend x I couldn't take it anymore. That's not to say that these people are making bad video's or giving bad information, but after smoking for so many years I didn't need to see another video on how to pack a pipe, or how to prepare flake tobacco, etc. Heck, I even got tired of myself. LOL Which is why I don't post video's anymore, plus it got to be to time consuming. I'd rather just sit back and enjoy a pipe or a cigar and not have to spend hours making a video.

My favorites back in the day were NWPipeSmoker, BremanPipeSmoker, Matches860, and that BriarBlues guy. ;)

Don’t worry.
You’re only 2 weeks behind him.

Haven't read all the responses but... right off the bat he makes a confusing statement. He says tobacco will dry out if left in the original tin. That is both right and wrong. If the tin has been opened it will slowly dry out, but if the tin is still vacuum sealed it will stay fresh for almost forever.

I think he means well, just too much of a newbie to be posting advice yet. puffy

The real answer to most of the questions I had about smoking were answered by smoking. And smoking some more. And then some more.
This is what I am finding as a new smoker as well.

I am not a big YouTube viewer, but I did watch a couple of videos on how to smoke a pipe. I have only been smoking my pipe for going on two weeks, but I already have found that each smoke gets better and I am enjoying it more.

I find these forums more informative than anything I have watched on YouTube to date.

Don’t get me started on the whole wannabe plantation owner “pipe smokers must dress proper, abstain from profanity, and be proper gentlemen” act by that Robert E Lee loving moron The Pipe Cottage rotf

I do quite like his fake Russell Edgington accent though 😆
+1

I watched a couple of his videos, including his now deleted unhinged rant when another YouTuber had the nerve to challenge his point of view, and that was it for me.

I also noticed that his accent changed during his videos, for example calling it "tabacca" and then later "tobacco".

I don't what to be told how to enjoy my new hobby (addiction?) I just want to smoke my pipe and enjoy the experience, and I hope that others do the same, however they choose to do so!

Somehow I doubt we'll be hearing much more from him. puffy

Man, I used to watch your videos all the time. You and Bremen got me into meers. I was wondering what happened to you, I'm glad to hear you're doing well and have found a smoking companion.

Whatever his shortcomings the man is trying to spread the gospel of pipe smoking to new converts.

Reverend Guy Howard wrote of illiterate Missionary Baptist preachers in the Ozarks preaching funerals where they’d have Lazarus raised up at the Sermon on the Mount, but it was a good effort, you know?

At least he’s not against us.

Thanks, I'm glad someone got some use out of those videos. LOL

I got back into a cigar mood for a long time, and rarely smoked my pipes the last couple years as I was primarily smoking cigars. Which is why I was absent from this forum for a long time as well. I went from smoking cigars all the time to smoking pipes primarily to smoking a combination of both, back to cigars primarily, so who knows where I'll go from here.

I understand, I just recently came back from a 2 year cigar stint, I seem to have found a nice balance between both of them though, they both have there place in my life.

I had a good balance going for a while where I would have a pipe in the mornings with a coffee, and a cigar in the evenings with a beer or whiskey. Then my brother got into cigars, and my friend started smoking cigars more frequently, so it seemed like I was always having a cigar. I definitely need to find that balance again.

I’ve been smoking a little over a year. I struggled with tongue bite pretty badly for a long time. Second only to drying my tobacco, packing lighter was the single most effective adjustment that I made to help with it. So I don’t personally agree with him suggesting a tighter pack. Just my 2 pennies.
We've been smoking a pipe about the same length of time. I've completely resolved the tongue bite issue by cutting the moist flakes into tiny cubes width-wise across the flake. This was recommended by several of the veterans in different posts and for Virginias/Vapers that lose some of their flavour when you dry it out, this has been a total game changer for me. Highly recommended.

I liked Pipe Cottage ... wish he would continue ...
I find myself frustrated with Muttonchop ... like, come on man, out with it ... then again, I will probably have a tough time smoking Straight Va's ...

He could be genuine, but I can't shake the impression I get of him just putting on an act.
