There are two purported pipe sellers I’ve noticed on ETSY that have sharp-looking pipes. One is called “Grimstonearts” with pipes signed “Alan C,” though the guy that messaged me had a different name and said he makes them in Utah. The other is “Morta Pipe” by a guy named “Eugene Sintsou” who says they’re made in Poland, by him. He imprints a leaf as a moniker.
These shops had genuinely nice looking pipes so I asked them if they were made in China - only because there’s 0 other places to read about or find these pipes.
I don’t think I’d buy a pipe that was only on ETSY with no other places with reviews or info. I’m curious if anyone here has bought something like this. These pipes look really nice. I’m stymied as to why a pipe-maker wouldn’t provide something more about their work, even just a bio. Are these scams?

They both seem to have positive reviews from customers who purchased their pipes. It doesn’t appear there are any scams to be concerned about.
Right. Thanks for looking. I wonder why these sellers don’t do just a little bit more. They look like nice products. I’m tempted.

I've bought numerous briars and meerschaums that way. No disappointments.

They enjoy making pipes and enjoy privacy.

I would add too that there is a good chance they just feel that it's all about the pipes and that they don't need some extra mythology (even if it's factual) to sell the pipes. I know if I got into pipe carving as a serious thing I would be shy about the background because I would want to be sure it was the pipes and not the myths that sold.

I purchased a pipe from Morta Pipes. No issues with the transaction and I enjoy the pipe.
That’s great to hear. The rustication on those pipes reminds me of Walt Cannoy. His carving looks impressive from the pictures. I’m interested when I buy a pipe to know a little background. I messaged him and he messaged me back that he hadn’t known what pipedia was and that presently he’s submitting info.

The collection of pipes I bought earlier this year had several pipes sold by MarsoBrodeurfaitmain on Etsy. All marked "Marso". I haven't smoked any of them, but they seem pretty good.

I think Etsy might just be a sales venue for newer pipe makers, or those who do it more as a hobby than a profession.
