I didn't want to have to start a thread, but was unable to find a similar thread. If there is one with which this one could be merged, please do so and thank you.

The other day I used a different pipe each time I smoked. At the end of the day I had had several bowls and had several pipes to clean.

It occured to me that I should try only using one pipe for the day. I woiuld only have one to clean. Also, each pipe would be "rested" longer this way.

One additional bonus, I suppose is that a favorite pipe would get enjoyed more than for one bowl.

Nope. Not for me. It takes less than 5 min to give a good cleaning after I'm done smoking. On days I smoke more than one bowl, it would be in a different pipe.

Having said that, there are members who smoke one pipe multiple days. But I think most of them clean their pipe soon after each smoke.

When I travel, I do so with only two pipes. I use the same pipe for several days at a time. At home, I tend to use the same pipe all day. My pipe collection has grown to about 30 pipes, but really, that is a bit too much for me. However, I am not ready to dispense with any of them just yet.
I’m settled with the number I’ve acquired for now. If I came across a good used or new Peterson 999, that would be nice .

Some times ill smoke the same pipe in a day, especially a cob. I don't mind cleaning a pipe after each smoke and I like to smoke all my different pipes. Regardless, if I were to only smoke the same pipe all day, I would still clean it after every time I smoked it instead of smoking it all day and cleaning it one time after that last smoke of the day.

I often smoke only one bowl a day, so that answers the one-pipe question. I like to rotate often because I want to get all of my pipes smoked regularly, so changing pipes is worth it to me. The other question is how compatible your blends are, or if you only smoke one. This isn't ghosting, but just a matter of getting some carry-over if you change blends. My father owned only one pipe at a time, until it burnt out, and smoked pretty much from just after breakfast to bedtime (until he quite cold turkey at 65 to take a job at a no-smoking campus). But he smoked only Granger, so it was all one blend. Maybe it's worth noting, if I smoke one pipe a day, and always rotate pipes, it takes me about three months to smoke them all, so they get long rests.

I should note that I only smoke one pipe at a time. ….lol!
