I've been messing with some camera settings & related, so thought I might as well shoot something entertaining.

Commissioned over 30 years ago. Mike couldn't resist the challenge. Faxed him a sketch and he said, "Yeah, I can work with that." The gold was his idea. I figured why not go all in, so gold it was.

The finish is his proprietary "Marron" one... first carved, then blasted. Me likey.

Ten inches long, bowl .85" x 1.85"

Smokes great. :col:

The draft hole is directly under the chamber? The 2 cavaliers I have are my driest smoking pipes and I always have to be careful that I don't keep puffing after all the tobacco have been burned and end up smoking briar.

Folks these days have forgotten or haven't heard about Buteras. I could never afford one in his heyday. Actually, I can't afford one now!

It's drilled conventionally. I would have actually preferred the dead-bottom / straight down thing, but never specified it, thinking it was a standard cavalier thing. Mike had seen too many burned draftholes, though, because of the dryness you mention, and wanted to play it safe.

No biggie either way, though. No trouble cleaning it or anything like that.

That's interesting! So, there no well and the bottom black piece is not removable? It's a lovely pipe.

I'm almost speechless, so beautiful .
Is there ever such a thing as first blasted and then carved ?
