£510 with another 4+ hours to go. Gorgeous pipes but way way out of my league.

Please note - I have not removed the stems as they seem to be very tightly fixed to the shanks and I didn't

want to risk breakage.
a.k.a. You must decide if you want to spend a grand on a desk-top conversation piece that can only be admired from a distance, or roll the dice on exploding the amber stem.

$1300 for the Barlings, wow.
This one ends in an hour or so, currently at $1200, a 1937 cased Dunhill set, unsmoked. I think it could hit $1700 or so?

Jumped to $1636 in the final 3 seconds.
Had the case been crocodile, it might have brought $2K.

I heard that the final frenzy was between an Italian and a Chinese collector. It will be winging its way to China!

The winner may regret his purchase unless he has access to a good restorer. Freeing up an amber stem is a delicate operation that requires patience and skill. RonnieB was kind enough to tell me how to do it on an amber stemmed billiard that had the same issue. Putting the amber stem in a freezer is a good way to destroy it. Forcing the amber will cause it to crack. Hopefully the buyer will send the set to a qualified repairman.
