I'm reminded when I hear interviews with celebrities or see pop culture clues for crossword puzzles how fragmented our culture is -- not just generationally but regionally, demographically, and in so many other ways. What is nostalgic or familiar in one public silo is an unknown world in another. I'm continually hearing interviews with musicians who have had long careers and large fan bases (according to the interviews) who I have never heard of. If you didn't grow up with their music, or dance to it in a key part of your youthful years, chances are you've never heard it at all.

There is longer even such a thing as an odd couple.
Yeah, they broke up.

A lot of things that have been ubiquitous in the pop culture are dying off with we Boomers...and will in the relatively near future be mostly forgotten...if they aren't already.

Well I'm actually gen-x and it's ingrain in my memory from re-runs. Shows like the Fugitive even. Actually, this evening I was listening to some public jazz station and they played this meandering cover of the Odd Couple theme and it took me around 30mins of concentration to recall what it was from.

It occurred to me this evening that it is highly plausible that one day in the future no one will of ever heard the Odd Couple theme song.
The first TV series, 2d or, the movie. If the former, I believe Hefti's theme is still around for those who want it. The show is still in syndication. Might even be available for streaming. The movie is available for streaming and still funny. iTunes has eight different versions listed for purchase. So, there's still an audience.
