I've been wanting a pipe from a specific carver for a little over a year now but have been unable to connect thus far. I've talked with him a bit, considered commissioning a pipe from him, and even looked through pictures of pipes he has previously made and said he could make another of, but so far no luck. For some reason choosing a pipe he made at random had the most appeal to me. (I can be weird that way.)
Two days ago he put up some pictures and wowza! I asked about the pipe the next day and he said someone was already interested in the pipe before me but he'd let me know if it didn't work. Dang it!
Got a message today the pipe was available if I was still interested. I said yes and asked for payment instructions. I'm waiting to hear back but hopefully this comes to fruition.
After all of the time spent and now seeing that it can happen (even if not with this pipe) I realized how much I truly enjoy the hunt. It's all of my random quirks, the carvers talent, and the stars aligning that not only makes it kind of thrilling but also satisfying.
The pipe would be my first in this particular shape (for some reason even though I have quite few pipes I never got this shape), the first from this country (which happens to be my wife's native country), and the first from this carver.
The anticipation is got me rather ecstatic and hopefully I get the pipe but if not I know that I will definitely get one his pipes sooner or later.
