I’ve only had 1 other olive wood pipe and it cracked along the grain. It was cosmetic. Is this cracking normal/cosmetic or structural on this one?

Apparently, olive wood can crack if it's not dried properly. Very slow drying is needed for olive wood. Problem seems to be there's more demand for olive woods than what's readily available. If it's fairly new pipe, why not talk to the vendor? If it's been used for awhile, it's just the nature of the beast.
like the way it looks and to me I'd assume they're just cosmetic but that's pulled out of the seat of my pants.
The only other one of olive wood ones : tanganyika had a small or even larger crack or separation in the grain. I figured I would ask here and get a better understanding of the wood. If it were briar I’d absolutely say cracked.
It could be olive wood, or it could be chance. I had a handsome no-name "Made In England" straight smooth billiard carved of briar, and it cracked right where the shank met the bowl, on the top of the shank.
It wasn't dropped or manhandled in any way.
I didn't want to smoke it to death, and a friend wanted a few pipes for decor (a Lucky Strike smoker who had finally quit), so I gave it to him.
I have about 90 pipes in rotation, and I've owned more, and that's the only one that has cracked on me.
The walls on that pipe look pretty thick. You might get away with smoking it for some years, but it bears watching. You don't want the ember in your lap.

of course if it happens it will happen at the worst time. Either driving or when wearing extra flammable clothing.
Olive wood is often thicker walled because it does have a tendency to crack, just like pear wood. Even smoked slow there is always a chance.
