I have a few tins of 2001 Escudo headed my way. I have never smoked Escudo other than fresh and was wondering what differences I can expect. I was also wondering if 13 years is pretty optimal or whether I should leave it in the tin for several more years - is there a "peak" to Escudo?

If you ordered several tins, open one right away and find out for yourself.

I am smoking a tin from 2004 at present. I am getting a very nice chocolate note from it. Very rich. In my experience, Escudo just keeps improving. One on this forum (Kevin) may disagree but he is after all the leading expert on his opinion (I listen). You can't go wrong holding or smoking now IMHO.

I cracked a tin from roughly 2000 this last weekend with Brian at KC. It was divine. Watching Greg Pease take a whiff was like watching a wine connoisseur take in some rare vintage.
You're stuff will be amazing. Crack one to experience it and stash the rest.
PS check my KC thread if you want to see pics of it.

Wow sounds spectacular, Escudo is one of my favorite smokes and I have just started aging some, can't imagine how good it will be in 10 years.

I am glad that I jumped on the ten tin deal from 4 noggins, my plan is to constantly supplement the stash with plenty for long term storage.
Indeed. If they can manage to do a sale like that every year I might never smoke anything else!

Here's my pic from the KC pipe show. Mine was the tin on the left from roughly 2000. The other tin the gentlemen thought was from around'02. Let me tell you, this stuff was good. REAL good!

Good stuff guys. I wonder why the tin on the left looks so much darker. Would 2 years make that much of a difference? Maybe I should leave mine for a year or two, lol.

Again, if you have several tins, I fail to see the downside of opening one now. But then I'm a big believer in Pease's dictum: better to smoke too soon and think of what it might become than to smoke too late and lament what it might have been. And if you have multiple tins, you can do both, really.

I don't think 2 years made that big of a difference. Mine could've been older and his newer than he thought. That's what I'm guessing. We were also wondering if it had anything to do with the conditions they were stored in...
