Ok... I am almost sure these have been posted at one time or another, as this is a pipe forum and these are old commercials that involve pipes... but these are so neat to re-watch (as I have this morning) that I thought I would post them for all to re-watch... enjoy :puffy:

The lady in the third one down is Penelope Keith. She played in several BBC comedy during the '70's and '80's. Its always fun to watch these ads to spot actors I've seen in films and TV.

interesting reversal in commercials though...
1950 - gay=bad, smoking=good
2012 - gay=good, smoking=bad

So every generation ultimately forgets the knowledge gained by previous generations. As a result, every generation promotes a mixture of their own facts and ignorance as truth. This is a spinning circle. We'd like to think our generation is "smarter" than previous generations, but it all depends on the subject matter. For instance, ancient civilizations knew so much more about living without technology than we'll ever know - if we lose the ability of technology, then we'll have to learn what they knew all over again.

^^^ well I don't know that we are "smarter" per se... we just have more info at our fingertips due to computers... but the more we head towards the singularity the more we forget some of these "old" technologies.
There are schools of thought that believe we are just an extension or left over remnants of a previous civilization, that we became so advanced that we basically imploded and had to start from scratch with the few survivors that remained and that some of those "ideas" remained embedded in us like an "instinct" and that is one of the reasons we have exploded in the last 100 years (with most of that in the last 50). If all technology went away at the moment I could have 200 years at my disposal and I couldn't even begin to build you a microchip or any other modern technology.

Of course theres also other theories that say there have been other separate civilizations that have completely dies away
These are the types of conversations that I truly enjoy having in person over drinks and pipes... it is also one of my favorite subjects to read about, like Graham Hancock and even Terrence McKenna (to a point on this subject, but I like him mainly for other reasons) and a whole gambit of authors in between.
