I would say Gawith, Hoggarth, & Co. Dark Flake unscented might be up your alley as well. To me, it is a beat meatier and more leathery than 1792, while Irish flake is a bit less so, though Irish flake certainly packs a big nicotine punch like the other two flakes.
As someone else mentioned, the Irish Flake is a tad more burley forward, while 1792 and Dark Flake Unscented have a bit more of the Dark Virginia at the forefront.

*To be exact, I am not sure about the leaf compositions of 1792 and Dark Flake, but they both contain fire-cured leaf. Dark flake is "Malawi Dark Fired Leaf and Indian dark air-cured leaf," while 1792 apparently contains "dark-fired Tanzanian leaf". Regardless of content, in taste, they are both from the same family I'd say, though not overtly similar.

Well, on the continual search for blends with that 'leathery' flavour, and this week I popped a tin of something that was an instant favourite, wessex campaign dark flake...and it has no kentucky, just virginia. My assumptions around needing kentucky in a blend to get this flavour were wrong (I could have just listened to you 7 months ago Jay  )

The whole tin of broken flake was dripping in molasses, and i have been leaving a flake out overnight before rubbing it out. Lovely smoke.

I'm right there with you Isaac.. Solani Silver and Wessex Campaign Dark are two of my favorites.
The flavors I get from the Wessex that I really savor are similar to what I got from a 12+ year old tin of Gawith Best Brown. If you ever get a chance at a 10+ year old tin of Best Brown, it's probably worth the price.

"Old timey leathery Kentucky Virginia combination" sounds exactly like a relative's wedding I attended a few months ago.

Irish flakes been mentioned, but I can't believe nobody's suggested st. Bruno or walnut flake so far. Old time leathery taste? Them two blends right there cobber!
