Bond's of Oxford Street http://stores.ebay.com/Bonds-of-Oxford-Street_Peterson__W0QQ_fsubZ8540210QQ_pgnZ1QQ_sidZ450690682QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14 seem to have alot of NOS pipes, especially Peterson's. This style 305 ahsn't been made since the 1970's yet I bought it new in the box for $87 including bank postage and Pay Pal fees.

It is 6 1/4" long by 2 1/4" tall. The tobacco chamber is 15/16" by 1 7/8" and the pipe weighs in at 1.9 ounces.

Today's 305's have the same calabash shape as their 315's.

Chuck that's a noble looking pipe.
Nice price too.
What's the oldest one you have?

My oldest Peterson is a 1902 Patent in the 312 shape. My oldest pipe is this cased sterling silver mounted WDC giant bulldog with a jewel quality amber stem from sometime in the 1890's.

The vulcanite stem was made for me by Tim West to help prevent any more chipping of the stem.

I'm a big Peterson lover myself. Loved checking out some of yours on Photobucket a while back. Still working on getting some older ones thrown in my collection. Chuck whats a good site with some info on how to find out the dating of the pipe. I got several pre-republics just not sure how old a couple are.

Mac, toward the bottom of this page, you will find Mike Leverette's rule of thumb dating guide.

To toot my own horn a little, I am the moderator of the Peterson's Smokers Group on Smokers Forums. If you can post pics and give me a detailed description of the stampings, I can probably date them for you.

I posted some old Peterson's catalogs on this forum a couple of months ago that might help too. Do a search for "For Peterson's Addicts"

Chuck... thank you for the information. I really want to add a Peterson to my collection, but have been struggling due to my lack of knowledge on the brand.

Mac, the lack of a COM tells me your pipe dates from 1915 to 1921 as does the style of the walking P on the shank. The circled 3 and nickle mount tells us it is the same grade as todays System Standard. The length of about 5 1/2" tells us it is probably a 314 or 317 shape. Your pipe appears to be in great shape.
jcsoldt, tell me what you normally like and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

I normally smoke larger pipes that are straight to a 1/4 bent, however I'm looking at what I consider more popular Peterson shapes. Here is a couple I've been watching on ebay...

Understand I'm looking for a nice pipe that is a good smoker, Collectability is secondary.

The 999 is a very popular shape. It has a smallish chamber but is an excellant pipe for strong tobaccos.

The 05 calabash is a large pipe and his $79 BIN price is good.

The Star 307 is a collectable pipe that will be the best smoker of the bunch. Be careful you don't get into a bidding war with it though. There are a couple on SF who are after that pipe.

Take a look at the Bonds link I gave. If you don't mind waiting about 10 to 14 days for delivery, they are reliable and a pleasure to deal with. If you like the look of the one I just recieved, they have 27 left in various finishes. These pipes are 30 to 40 years old. The 307's are large and work really well with English or aromatic tobaccos. I would ask that you give yourself a chance to get used to the P-lip. They are like Scotch, an aquired taste. If you like them BIG, look for their Special's or Hand Made (House) pipes. The House pipe is called that because they aren't suitable for clenching. They're just too big.
If I can be of any further service, let me know.
