I couldn't help but notice that many of the reviews on tobaccoreviews website are really old.
Whilst I'm sure what is written is still relevant, they all seem at least 7 years old. Where are their more recent reviews?

I do this all the time. I deprecate (not discard) older reviews of current blends. Tobacco is never the same year to year, just like wine, vintages are different, though not always detectable. Blenders occasionally tinker with the recipes. How close the tin of today resembles the blend reviewed 5-9 years ago is anyone's guess.

I also try to identify reviewers who provide the type of information that I find useful and then focus on their reviews. Not all reviews are equal.
Agreed. I know that I would be terrible at giving reviews so I hesitate to fault the less useful ones, but merely saying "this is my favorite" or "this tastes like ______" doesn't really help a whole lot

I agree with this. There’s a merlot I absolutely love called Toad Hollow. It’s nothing special or expensive. It just hit well with me. But the best year of it I ever had was from a 2003 vintage. I could never figure it out, but from about 2005 to 2008 those bottles were available & they tasted better than the exact same wine in current years. So whenever I saw them, I snagged them.

Still have 2 or 3 bottles in the rack. Unfortunately, I stored them leaning a little upside down because that’s how they sit in the rack. When I opened one this past December, the cork fell to piece & I had to strain out pieces. Fun.

I liked this wine so much that I actually called the winery to compliment & inquire. They said that there was a drought & the ground was exceptionally dry, which can apparently be good for wine grapes. I don’t know much about it all, but I appreciated the explanation. image.jpg

I just read a couple of old reviews by JimInks and
Pipestud for Frog Morton Across the Pond while enjoying a bowl of the 2005 vintage stuff I put away long ago.
I have to say that I couldn't post a better review today, which is a tribute to both the reviewers and to way this tobacco ages. Syrian latakia ages so well! Delicious!

I am just smoking through the last of a tin of FMATP and also read those reviews. My experience did match the dominant notes of the reviews which was fun to note. The bottom is I’ve enjoyed the blend and would look for other similar quality blends from that genre reviewed by either reviewer.
