Man Chero,
where do you live? I have several pipes that are in their 50's and none cracked, they have traveld the world with me, in all types of climates but I have never seen any cracks like that. I have one that my wife bought me two years ago brand new with lighter and stamper that cracked right on the grain, but that had nothing to do with age it was poor workmanship, un fortunately I could not return it because we had left germany already. But other than that I never seen a pipe crack like that.

Yuri,i got a group of all makes and models from a estate sale of a music composer who lived in calf. they were stored away and not touched for over 25 years. out of the 49 pipes that he had owned 29 had dried out and cracked and 20 are just like they just were smoked.i don't know where they were stored just that they were lose in a box.i looked at them at the time i got them and saw some were cracked and some were still good.of the 29 that show cracks most are hair line crackes and could be repaired but i like them as they are and have retired them to there own rack.i just think they are neat and i can only smoke so many of my own anyway, i gave 20.00 bucks for the box.

Usually a pipe cracks because of a flaw in the bowl. I buy and restore many old antique pipes and they don't crack, in fact after 40 years of pipe smoking, I have never cracked a pipe.

The only one I ever had crack was my favorite old Peterson. That was due to being dropped, not because of a flaw. It still smoked though for many years.
