Old Joe Krantz: Not Enough Praise!

In my opinion, though not a straight burley blend, OJK has the all time nuttiest most full bodied burley flavor of any blend (including Burley Flake). This makes it a hell of a blend to smoke during the Autumn time.
Note picked up: nutty(Walnut?), Mushroom, Leather, Cedar, Slight floral note (probably from the virginia), roasted coffee, campfire.
Beware the nicotine content! I am a nicotine heavyweight, using high nicotine snus on a daily basis and this blend sends my head into a spin. If you're nic sensitive, beware. I am surprised that this blend doesn't seem to be talked about among burley enjoyers!

Agreed. It's a wonderful blend, as are may of Bob Runowski's creations. And I appreciate the flexibility in packaging. I can keep a few tins in the cellar, but also load up a jar with a bulk buy for immediate enjoyment.

The original blend is strong indeed, but it has been central to my rotation from time to time. Now it comes in different strengths and proportions, so if you want something milder, you can have that too. C&D is the blender that rediscovered burley as something other than a codger or over-the-counter blending leaf. C&D did for burley what McClellands did for Virginias. Billy Budd, Tuggle Hall, Stratfordshire, etc., so many good premium burley based or inclusive blends.

Old Joe Krantz Blue is one of my regulars.. However I don't get as much nicotine in this as I do in say Pegasus.
I haven't tried any of the other OJK blends, due to them having other tobaccos in it. Ewww.

I find OJK original to be a little harsh and prefer Blue. However, I much prefer Kelly's Coin and wish it came bulk.

Old Joe got me off cigarettes for the most part. It belongs in a special category for me as it was exclusively what I smoked for the first few months of my pipe adventure. It can get strong in a large bowl but groups 1-4 pipes shouldnt be to much for a smoker of tobacco to handle.

Couldn't agree more. I love OJK original. Near perfect balance of burley, VA and Perique for me...and no fuss to use. Have more of it cellared than any other blend.
