Hello,
Thanks to SmokingPipes for their Sunday blog I saw this website. I live in York NY where there are more cows than people. I have been a pipe smoker for over 52 years. As with most things it is good to share thoughts and learn from other people’s experiences. I look forward to expanding my pipe smoking horizons.

Pausch, welcome from Central N.C. A former/late neighbor who retired here was an orchard man from near Syracuse, and my wife's extended family includes a branch from Collins Corner near Buffalo.

To didimauw,
I think I was preordained to smoke a pipe. I guess the story of my pipe smoking adventure started with my maternal grandfather. He died early in my life but my memory of him is sitting on his lap while he puffed on his pipe. My father smoked a pipe as well. When he gave up cigarettes his pipes went into a drawer of the secretary at the top of the stairs. My mother would catch me smoking and sitting at the top of the stairs. Of course there was no tobacco but as a 4 or 5 year old I enjoyed the taste.
After that I went on a hiatus till my 18th birthday. My uncle gave me an Algerian briar Billard that was covered in goatskin. My first pipe and my brother bought me some Captain Black. That was 1968 and since then many more pipes and tobacco. Many of my pipes have some good stories and travels.

Welcome from S.W Michigan. I'm sure you will have some good observations and funny stories to share after 52 years of puffing a pipe. Glad you decided to join the site.
