I dont like it. It burns perfectly but other than that...
Does anyone want a recently open tin?

Old Dublin is my go-to everyday latakia blend. I can always smoke it happily.

I'll let someone else take you up on your kind offer, who hasn't tried it and would like to.

Latakia? Not it my tin it disappeared after I lighted it. Only oriental, too much oriental, to me at least.

I tried it twice and hated it both times. It had too much nic for my sensibilities. Plus, that was the worst smelling tobacco, out of the tin, that I've ever encountered. I gave it to member lestrout, who loves it!

It just shows how individual tobacco tastes are. I'm gonna send a PM with my details, since nobody else is rushing forward to claim this. Dnietosi, if someone else PMs you before you get a chance to send it out, who wants to try it, let them. Otherwise I will be glad to take it, and thank you.

When I tried first Old Dublin, I HATED it. Fast-forward to a year to 18 months later, I tried it again (after a "proper" introduction to "English" blends) and was surprised at how good it is. Not my favorite, but certainly not as awful as I thought was. YMMV

Count me as a non-fan. Here's what I wrote two years ago when I opened a tin of Old Dublin:
"I wanted to really like this, since I opened it shortly after a visit to Dublin. Unfortunately, it had merely 'acceptable' English flavor. And it was quite thin-bodied and smokey/steamy. Ended up tossing most of the tin."
I love English blends. Didn't like this.
Unfortunately, I still have three tins of this stuff in my cellar: 1 from 2007; 2 from 2010. PM me if you're interested.
Bob

Well, for one thing, I wasn't a member here two years ago!
But, if I'm being totally honest, it takes some effort to line-up a trade, buy an appropriate padded envelope, drive down to the post office, stand in line for 15 minutes, and pay someone a couple bucks to ship it for me. I'm happy to do that for a blend that's worth sharing. But for something I don't recommend anyone smoke? I'll probably toss it every time.

In the relatively short time that I've been smoking a pipe (3 years), the most important thing I learned (and I learned it here) is to set aside a blend you dont like and come back to it later - a year or so down the line. It may surprise you the second time 'round.

I have yet to try this one, I have tried a few other Pete's blends, love the Irish oak and the Irish whiskey. Or the Irish oak with some Irish whiskey,if nobody else takes you up on the offer let me know I'll give her a try. If all else fails I've got a buddy at work that'll smoke anything

There is Latakia in Old Dublin? Mine just looked like cigarette shag. Tried it a couple times, put it up for a while, tried it again, and I can honestly say that it is the only blend I have ever tried that I know I can't smoke through and try to "get it". Not even a hint of Latakia in my tin. Are we speaking of the same baccy?

Hey ROTHNH, you never said if you liked Old Dublin or not. Just curious...?

I dunno where you guys get the idea there's no latakia in Old Dublin. Peterson says there is, and I can sure taste it. It's not a lat bomb, for sure, but it's there.

I aged it about 8 years if I got my dates right. Still no go for me and I LOVE Latakia. I keep pure Lat around and add it to other blends as needed. Based on the reviews lot of folks seem to love OD. Sounds right up my ally. Go figure.

I just dug up the old tin of OD and was wondering if there is any way to tell the age by the code stamped on the back?

The code is: 052325

The baccy is jarred. I really need to start writing the date along with the name...

Thanks. That seems to fit my recollection, and the tin has different art than current.

It's definitely not an in your face lat blend. It's not Ten Russians,or Star of the East, or even Penzance. It's a nice middle-of-the-road English, like Squadron Leader.

Old Dublin was one of the first tins I bought, but hated it on the first few bowls. I jarred it for a year, gave it another shot, with the same dissatisfaction. I gave it to member Lestrout, he loves it and can't understand why I don't, since we share an affinity for other English blends. Perhaps one day, I'll give it another try.
