Hello there my pipe smoking comrades.
I have a briar that was supposed to be english tobacco only, I had it a little over a month and smoked nothing but Old Dublin, but for about a couple of days now I smoked Half&Half...

I do get a little more of a sweeter taste, but was wondering if I tried Nat Sherman, or any other english, would the latter tobacco make a difference? Sine I will continue using english tobacco. Thanks

That's the sort of thing that depends on the individual. I don't find that to be an issue; I smoke any latakia blend I want in the pipes in my lat rotation.

I do have a couple of pipes I have dedicated to certain blends, but that's because those blends smoked so beautifully in those pipes, I simply decided to go that route.

Thanks for the info, your not cynical at all, just waiting for my order from tobcco pipes and grabbed it in a pinch. I forgot that the place is based in FLORIDA, I hope it gets here, but anyway, thanks again.

The only ghosting I'd worry about are Lakeland aromatic blends. Other blends will eventually (fairly soon) get overlaid by other blends and not be a problem. Some people taste Latakia when they don't want to, going to a Va/Per or other non-Lat blend, but most ignore or enjoy that. But you can suit yourself. If you want to designate pipes for each genre of tobacco, you're the king of your pipe rack. Personally, I just don't bother, and I don't taste any residual flavors.

You just answered and made a reference to residual "ghosting" when using Lakeland Aromatic blends. I just returned to pipe smoking after a long hiatus, and would like to know just why Lakeland aros are so notorious regarding leaving behind residual flavors/aromas that will "haunt" subsequent tobaccos smoked through a particular pipe. Interesting. I have read very little about this problematic ghosting, how it happens, and how to get rid of it.
I have picked up, with the intent to buy, used/abused pipes at local garage sales, and honestly, some of these pipes reek of old lady perfumes, and men's colognes. I can't even imagine how to remove perfume smells from a pipe. Never thought tobaccos could also haunt a pipe.
School me, please.
Frank

Aromatics in general ghost as the aromatic agents get into the wood, as they have in the lot of pipes you bought. Somebody will probably tell you to use the salt care/treatment to remove ghosts, but I cannot as I am careful to smoke aromatics in cobs. Lakeland are notorious for ghosting perhaps because of the pipe forums' prejudice against them. But I've smoked several tins of WarHorse, and to my nose those cobs are no less ghosted than those in which I smoked the Lakelands.

Also, the forums are generally anti-aromatic, although most guys who are pro-natural tobacco still smoke a few aro's.

I'm working through a tin of Half n Half from the 60's and it's pretty damn good and it's not ghosting anything. The new stuff is garbage.

I agree, plenty of aromatic appreciation here, some exclusive aro smokers, many who smoke both aro and non-.

I'm very sensitive to ghosting. I can't stand many tobacco blends. So once I found one I liked, and my mouth could tolerate, I stuck with it. So on the very rare occasion that I try a new blend, the flavor haunts my pipe for a very long time. But I think I'm in the minority here.

We had a ghost in the last house we lived in. She was a nice old lady though. She died in the house, but would show up every once in a while. Nothing bad or anything, just to peek in and say hi. She loved books and flowers and trees. I wish I could have met her before she died.
So, ghosts in a pipe? I bought a retort for any necessary exorcisms, but haven't had to use it yet.

That's the truth! Used to smoke it back in the 70"s and loved it. Now, nasty shit. Bought a tub of it and gave it to a homeless guy along with a Dr. Grabow Omega I could not stand. No slam on DG"s, just that particular model. Hate that stupid bit on it...

Lots of aromatic love here. I mostly smoke Virginia’s, but sometimes an aromatic or Lakeland hits the spot. As far as ghosting, I just keep em(pipes by genre) separated.
