Ok, guys…I gave Latakia a pretty bad rap for several years. Unfairly, yes. I finished a tin of Quiet Nights recently and I must admit,I’ve been wrong. I don’t know, maybe my tastes have changed, but with a few glasses of Bolger Cab Sav, it was perfect. I’m starting to look at English blends in a different light. I am by no means a newbie….30 plus year smoker, but I dunno…..the clouds have opened?

I have never been a Latakia lover but smoked it from time to time when managing the smoke shops so that I could give an accurate description to customers.
Recently I bought some C&D Bayou Nights which has a little Latakia in it. Not an English blend by any stretch of the imagination but I could see myself smoking it occasionally. I am not ready for a steady diet of Latakia yet, but did find the Latakia in it more more pleasant than I remembered.

I think Latakia and Perique are overused generally as condiments, though I enjoy them both. I think the trick to enjoying them is to rotate them with blends that don't have those, or don't have much. Otherwise, some pipe smokers are prone to burnout on those flavors.

In recent years, I've regularly smoked and enjoyed them both, but not in every bowl.

Agree on the lat! Presby mix is just about right on the money for me right now with regards to the amount of Latakia (yes it’s in there).

Yes, speak and you shall see the light! One of the best things ever created was precious Latakia. What's not to like I wonder. I started with your cheapo aromatics like many and then I found PS English Oriental Supreme on a fluke purchase. Never looked back. Although I do enjoy all genres my Latakia-based blends are my go-to favorites.
