Fascinating observation. My folks and many who went before were held up as "role models." It's these perceptual differences, the environment in which we were raised, which make our species so interesting. I suppose I was lucky to be reared in an atmosphere which included many, many role models from the historical to the next door neighbors. I did/do still notice that all of my early role models were successful in life. Not necessarily financially but, in raising families, working hard and giving back to the community.

Which was another thing I heard as a lad, "Give back to the community." Which tied in nicely to, "You can't take it with you."
One thing I certainly have had good luck with is knowing people with some degree of wisdom and integrity in my life. A few teachers and neighbors and others. My immediate family not too much good to learn from them.
