So a couple of months ago, I did the math and realized I was spending over $500 a month smoking cigars. So after more than ten years off, I decided to switch back to smoking pipe. I found this forum, found smokingreviews, and found tobaccocellar. And here's what I've done since:
Bought one new pipe - a Poul Winslow Freehand.

Bought some tobacco:
Dunhill Flake - 5 tins cellared, 1 tin open

Dunhill Nightcap - 5 tins cellared, 1 tin open

Dunhill MyMixture 965 - 1 tin cellared

GL Pease Gas Light - 1 tin open

Lane Limited BCA - 1 pound bulk opened

McClelland Frog Morton Cellar - 5 3.5 oz tins cellared, 1 tin open

Orlik Golden Sliced - 5 3.5 oz tins cellared, 1 tin open

Peterson's Irish Flake - 1 tin open

Rattray's Old Gowrie - 1 3.5 oz tin cellared, 1 tin open

Russ Oullette's Anniversary Kake - 2 8 oz tins cellared, 1 open

Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake - 1 250g box cellared, 1 250g box open

Escudo Navy Deluxe - 9 tins cellared, 1 tin open

STC Molto Dolce - 2 tins cellared, 1 tin open

Wessex BCDF - 9 tins cellared, 1 tin open
Everything that is opened is in Ball Mason jars of appropriate size.
I probably need to work on my pipes. I've got 6 and I never use the same one without 48 hours minimum rest.
Anyway.....Hello from the new guy.

Thanks. I'm from Indianapolis. My day job is corporate attorney. My passion is drag racing. I race a 2,400 HP blown alcohol dragster, and have a career best quarter mile of 6.18 seconds at 223.76 mph.
I'll have to load up some pipe pics so I can post them. My collection includes a Chacom pipe I bought in France, 2 different Petterson Kinsales, an Italian pipe whose brand I cannot recall or figure out as I've worn some markings smooth, a Boswell I bought in the store (my family is originally from about 30 miles from Boswell's), and the new Winslow.

So jmatt is an attorney that is showing serious TAD/PAD symptoms? Look out guys. We may have another Peck on our hands. If you have your eye on anything, better buy it fast.

LOL. Thanks for the welcome guys. If you think about it, I have an intense, high-pressure job and an intense, high-pressure hobby. Pipe-smoking is for disconnecting from it all. I love being home in the evening, sitting on my deck and just puffing. Something about the ethereal quality of the smoke rising as I puff away is immensely satisfying and relaxing.
I'm no Peck, but with the FDA getting involved we all know pipe tobacco isn't ever going to be cheaper than today. And tins bought today won't ever really lose their value. I'll either smoke all that I buy or have an opportunity for at least some long term hobby-funding profit. At a minimum I intend to insulate myself from tobacco taxes we all know are inevitably going to rise.

You are a fool of the first order.
Welcome to the club!
Enjoy your journey--as it is not only fun, boastful, but practical in those baccys and briars you will enjoy!

Why thank you......I think. ;)

Welcome to the forum
Your list of tobacco is very impressive; you just need to work on your pipe collection!
There are members here that own 5 pipes, and others who have several thousand.
You are an eclectic man
I am sensing some great things that are going to come from you
Enjoy

Welcome aboard jmatt.
That is a nice start to your tobacco hoard. Either you smoke some really high end sticks or you just smoke a LOT :nana:
While not spending $500/mo I did realize that pipe smoking has a deeper flavor component and was a bit more relaxing than cigars.
I also have a Winslow and it is a flake machine:

You'd be surprised. I always bought local to support the local shop. Average stick was $12 and I smoked about 10 a week. That's just one per weeknight and two every Saturday and Sunday. Throw one more per week on a random night. $120 a week times 4.3 and boom - there goes $500 up in smoke.
Let me work on a couple of pipe pics for the thread.

So I'm trying my hand at this version of software. Hopefully this is a pic of my new Winslow Freehand:

It looks like it's going to work, so here's two more.
This is a Chacom pipe I bought in Lille, France while living there in the Summer of 2002. I don't think it was very expensive, but I liked the grain and the inlay on the shank portion of the pipe.

And here's probably my favorite pipe to smoke because it always smokes well. I'd appreciate help identifying it. I bought it in 2002-2004 from a local shop, but even they couldn't recall what brand this might have been. It does say Made in Italy on it.

Here's a close-up of the markings on the Italian pipe if someone can help tell me what this is:

Thanks again for the welcome all!!

Welcome from a fellow Indianapolis resident. Looks like you have a good start with your cellar and some nice pipes. If you ever travel down to Bloomington you should check out the Briar and the Burley. I do need to warn you though he has around 2,000 pipes in the store and some really cool F1 and racing memorabilia.

Just finished a bowl of Orlik Golden Sliced in the Winslow. 90 minutes with one relight at 50 minutes and nothing but a small amount of white ash left over. Now that's relaxing!
Larrylegend - I've been to the Briar and Burley several times. My son is a Junior at IU. Are you a Pacers fan, Celtics fan, or from Indiana State or French Lick? ;)

Welcome to the Forums. Great tobacco selections and terrific beginning to the dreaded PAD disease.
When I was a teen in Florida, I used to go to and hang with "Big Daddy" Don Garlits at the raceway.
