This whole thread of fear that underlies most of what is posted these days makes visiting here very annoying at times. Even with folks "in the know" coming on and trying to assure everyone that the hobby will survive, people are delving into deep seated fearmongering. It could be other politics running over into the forums. But, it makes the overall mood,mreactions,, and conversation suck. Both sides of the right/left wing smoke. Cigar bars, pipe shops, forums, even pipe makers run the gambit of political views. Everyone has an asshole, but their is no need to show it to everyone. I'm not particularly interested in seeing your unique and politically perfect bumhole, and you probably don't want to see mine either.

Of course big tobacco was behind this. As filings, testing, and fees start, they are the only ones who will be able to afford the cost. As I've said before, the smaller blenders will fall by the wayside being bought up at bargain prices by big tobacco, who will then have much less competition thus larger profits. We are not an altruistic government. We are fed fear so the rich can get richer.

I lean liberal on everything other than personal choice issues such as tobacco and guns, and the stereotyping bullshit of liberals against everyone who disagrees with them. On both extremes there is no intelligent life to be found, and it's unfortunate that nobody can stop the politicians from manufacturing such polarization just to get themselves re-elected.

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't the new regulations just prevent the manufacture of blends that dont comply with the deeming regulation?
So if P and C had for example 10,000 tins of brand X in stock, wouldn't they be allowed to continue to sell it even after 2018, since they are a distributor and not the actual maker/ producer of the tobacco?
If that is the case then P and C would have minimal risk involved in stockpiling popular post 2007 blends, that they know will eventually sell.

@weezell: not only America, it does seem that the culture, honour, pride, richness of minds has indeed decayed since 1800 onwards.

I do believe that education for all has actually reduced the overall average compared to a society made with rich very educated ruling class and poor uneducated ruled class.

I am not saying it was better, but it does seem that the human race accomplishes more when few people decide, and less when everybody has something to say.

We've had times in the past when it was legal to kill a man for smoking, and then they lightened up for a ferw decades by just advocating beating pipesmokers with sticks. As far as times in the past that were "better" than today... I just can't think of any time in history that I would prefer to live. Sure, sure, there are romantic ideals of the past, but this is fiction to just take the notion of the past by books.

The past is full of nasty smelling, non-bathing, ugly, ignorant, murderous, mob rules... and that's just the women. Nope, I'm fine with the way things are progressing. There are a whole lot more things to consider than just smoking a pipe. I'm very happy to just read about someone's idealized version of the past in books or movies. But, when the book or movie is over, I go to my secure home in a time with the least amount of violence in history of mankind, enjoy my electronics, lighting, air conditioner, refrigerator, food that I am confident won't kill me or make me sick, with wages earned at a time in history that I can afford a home, family and vehicles, living like a king. No other time in history has the majority of people lived at a level of health and elegance that royalty and an elite few could enjoy.
Sure, there are still morons out there, lots of them. But, at least we don't have moron kings that we are stuck with till they die, while we all live in pig feces, rolling in our own filth, and the filth of others. Nope, I thank the Lord God almighty every morninmg for being allowed to live in this time in history. YMMV

I agree with that. However wouldn't you say that more people "have" more, but the majority "is" less. More belongings, less "being" I don't know if I'm clear.

still I keep having this thought that, humanity as a whole made greater things when less people ruled. Sure, on a personal level, we have more comfort, but I can't help myself thinking that while, we all "have" more, as individuals, we do much less, as a "society" ...
