I’m not quite 45 and I’ve been trimming my ear hair (which is snow white) for a quite a few years now. That’s not a good trend.
Also, again starting a few years ago, I realized I was unconsciously following an obsession of my grandfather’s he constantly nagged me about and which I thought was utterly ridiculous for most of my life: taking my hat off as soon as I walk inside, especially a house. I already wear New Balance shoes. If I start tipping under 20% it will be time for a midlife crisis.
Carter Hall and Middleton Cherry will be my next bowls.

Don’t worry too much Krizzose, I cannot wear a hat indoors since my time in the Army and New Balance sneakers are very supportive and quite practical. :?

It's discouraging how good many of these old blends are. There's a reason some of them have been around since World War One or earlier. And as for the military issue eye glass frames, they would definitely keep the birth rate down around military bases or anywhere. BCG indeed.

I just picked up some CH and SWR on a whim yesterday. These old blends have been around forever, so I feel like I need to try them out. But I'm a straight VA sort of guy and I can smell the flavoring (and only the flavoring, no detectable tobacco) through the sealed pouch. I don't know if I can bring myself to actually put it in a pipe, let alone smoke it.
Funny that one of the things that first made me interested in pipes (back in HS) was the smell of (OTC?) aromatics. But today they just seem cloying.

I have an Uncle who used to smoke CH and that was probably my first exposure to someone smoking a pipe.
Always enjoyed the aroma of CH. May crack open that new tub tomorrow.

My dad didn't smoke, but several uncles smoked a pipe, and I believe both my grandfathers as well (although they both passed away before I was born.). I wish I knew what they smoked. At any rate, I occasionally enjoy some Prince Albert, imagining that they probably at least tried that at some point.

I too observe hat etiquette, removing it indoors and such. I know there is a strong cultural attachment to wearing big Stetsons and trucker caps in restaurants, and I see the problem of where to put them if they are removed, and of forgetting them. But I think a man who wears any hat (other than some religious head gear) while eating at a white table cloth place is mistaken, at least anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. Hat etiquette is a lost art. I'll juggle my hat on my lap if I have to, to avoid violating the code. Since Vietnam veterans have been forever left out of the Presidential succession (and don't think I forgive that) I feel I have license to laugh at all the Presidents who salute the troops while being themselves uncovered, which is or was, against military protocol, the price of Presidents who have no real military experience, regardless of their being "commander in chief." Bah humbug. Curmudgeon attack.
