derfargin, I hear you man. Problems seem to disappear, or at least fade into the background while I'm smoking a bowl, especially for my evening bowl which is generally after sunset.
I have to say that I found the Plumcake rather monochromatic and not too interesting but that is only after one bowl. Will try it again.

Glad you liked Bold Kentucky, that's an amazing tobacco. The others in your list are outstanding, too.

Jp,

I think it ended well. I've tried all the blends. In the order that I like and realizing that my palette is totally subjective and different from everyone else's:

1) Mac Baren HH Bold Kentucky

2) Hearth & Home Black House

3) Frog Morton on the Town

4) Dunhill Night Cap

5) Peterson Old Dublin

6) Mac Baren Plumcake

Perdurabo, I agree with your assessment of the Plumcake.
Here is what I have coming in from 4noggins

1) C&D Old Joe Krantz

2) Peterson Irish Flake

3) Peterson 3Ps Perfect Plug

4) C&D bulk Pegasus

5) Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired

Which one first guys?

Peterson perfect plug is in my top five. It is a tiny, marvelous brick.

Old Joe Krantz is very agreeable, as is Pegasus, and Old Dark Fired. Any of those as a starter would work for me.

I tried the Old Joe Krantz last night. I found it pretty strong.

I will try another bowl though.

I think I packed it too tight and attempted to smoke it too fast.
Every bowl is an opportunity to learn.

Interesting that Old Dublin and Nightcap were so close together on your "likes" list. They are two of my favorite Lat bombs, and they always run neck and neck for me. I think sometimes my daily chemistry just decides for me. Sometimes I walk in the door from work thinking, "I sure could go for a bowl of Nightcap", and sometimes it's the itch for Old Dublin. Wierd, huh?

Yep, that will always turn even the 'best' tobacco (whatever that subjective term may be) into a foul experience.

I'm wondering if my palate is broken! Although I am still only a year into re-ignitning, I can tell only tobaccos I like or don't like. Some I can say I like a lot, such as Pirate Kake.
Is the smoker's palate something that takes a while to develop? I have been trying a lot of different things, so much so that I think I better start writing them down, particularly if I put a bowl down to finish later!

Have heard nothing but good about all the FrogMortons, but the Frog On the Town seems to be the favorite.

Jp,

I'm just a newbie but what I found to really help me taste the flavors is to exhale a cloud and then bend my nose into it and slowly inhale. That really awakened the flavor awareness for me.
Aldecaker, Here is my theory on what I think happened with that first bowl of Old Joe. I decided to smoke some stuff called Creme Brule. Nasty crap.

I put it in my IMP Meerschaum and tried it. What nasty stuff. Oily, greasy, gloppy no taste, no flavor. I tried a few puffs but had to dump it. I wiped out the bowl of my IMP and then decided to try Old Joe. I think I should have waited an hour or so to reset my palette or taste buds or something. Also, I didn't let Old Joe dry out at all. Poor guy.

On the bright side, I had an absolutely marvelous bowl of Mac Baren Old Dark Fired and it immediately moved to my must buy more and cellar list.
