Oil cured pipes are really what they promise

I have been trying differents brands of oil cured pipes Ashton, Dunhill, Ferdown and Radice and I will like to share my doubts about it:

1)What are your general impression about oil cured pipes, are really different fron the non oil cured? some improve?

2)Do you find any difference betwen differents oil cured pipes?

3)The extra cost for the oil cured really worth?

I have both types. I notice a certain taste to oil cured pipes, but only for the first few smokes. After that, I can't tell the difference.

Once the resins are out of the wood, and the pores have been saturated with whatever you're smoking, there should be no difference.

All the same, I prefer air cured brair, if possible. But I don't go looking for a pipe that's air cured. I look for other determining factors first. If it's air cured, so much the better.

I never had an oil cured briar, but I noticed the same phenomenon with a dead root briar. It had a very distinctive and desirable taste at first, but after 50 or so smokes it began to taste pretty much like briars half as expensive.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but its my understanding that Dunhill's are no longer oil cured. Assuming that's true, I can say my preference is for non-oil cured. Personally, I think all of my Dunhills made after 1990 smoke better than my earlier ones. The only other oil cured I have is an Ashton and can say its a good smoker but no better than my non-oil cured pipes.

Sorry, but my last post have some problems:

1) I dont find any major differences betwen my Dunhills made during the 70´s compared with the made after the 90´s, The same for the Radice´s, except for the easy breaking in.

2) I find some difference in the Ashtons during the 15 or 20 initials smokes (less bowl heat and better taste, after is very similar to the air cured briar.

3) The Ferdowns are the oil cured with more significant differences with the air cured, never overheat, very easy breaking in, and very neutral about the tobacco flavor. But it could be due the kind of briar and they ussually are bigger than the average pipe with long stems (I have never see a Ferdown nosewarmer).

What kind of oil?

10w40 in the summer, 5w20 in winter...
Actually, from what I've read they all use a proprietary blend of various veg and nut oils.
