The same seller has also some interesting freehand pipes

Perhaps it's from the same estate sale.

You didn't stand a chance in hell of winning it because you were up against THIS type of collector the "period" collector
eBay is rife with them. They put in exorbitant bids because they want something and neither care about cost or market value. He's not a pipe collector. He collects all kinds of stuff from a given period and this pipe will look nice sitting on the shelf next to the Erté statue. Sellers love them.
There will be other opportunities and hopefully you will have better luck then.

Hey Sable, how do I find that breakdown on myself? That's very interesting and never knew one could find that!!

Was that ... really you iamn8?

You've been selling some nice Dunhills in the forum, I can see that. 8)
It will be a nice pair with this one:

Dunhills in 1920s are not something that will surface so often. :puffpipe:

It's getting tough out there even for us bottom feeders. I put a $9.99 starting bid on a beat up old Yello Bole only to have the next bid jump to $51.00. An old Dr Grabow went for $32.00. For the first time in over a year I don't have any estate pipes coming in from ebay this week. I may have to find a new less expensive hobby.... or just use the money I'm saving to buy a couple new pipes every year.
