I have a quirk when it comes to pipe smoking. I like to load several pipes with tobacco intending to smoke them that day. I place them in plastic bags to keep the lose leaf from scattering all over the place. If I don’t smoke all of them I just wait until I can. Even if it is several days later. Am I too weird? Does any one else do this? It seems to help dry out the wet blends.

I pack 'em one at a time, and I lean them in a little low dish, but I may smoke them hours or a day or two later. Nothing strange about it. I'm much more apt to have a bowl if I don't necessarily have to do the packing just then.

Thanks guys. I have odd habits sometimes.

I also squirrel away dirty pipes to clean them all at once. On average I smoke maybe twice a week. It is a good thing that I have 15 pipes. That does not include the churchwardens. They are too cumbersome to smoke but I love the look of them.

Seems quite reasonable sans the plastic bag. Buy a couple of pipe stands, do what you do but just leave the loaded pipes in a stand where the tobacco won't fall out of the bowl.
I just do not have the room to have pipes standing around. I have tried in the past but kept getting knocked over.

I have happened upon Delayed Gratification recently. So far I have noticed no negative effect for pipes left overnight or for 48 hours. There was one loaded pipe that I'd unwittingly left for about 4 days, which seemed a tad less flavorful. However, my smoking is still inconsistent enough for me to be uncertain that other factors were not involved.

I don’t load pipes, or a pipe, until I’m ready to smoke it.

As far drying out tobacco, I will take a quantity of tobacco and let it sit out in a small bowl to air dry until it’s dried to my liking. Usually no more than 3-4 ounces. After it’s dried I keep it in small bail jars that hold 3-4 ounces.

Recently I bought several rectangular OXO containers to store smaller amounts of tobacco. I was interested in seeing how well the seal in those worked. After a few months the tobacco in them as dried down a small degree, but not a whole lot.

If I do end up with really dry tobacco for whatever reason, I just load up a bowl and blow through the pipe from the chamber to moisturize it a bit.

That’s just how I do it.

Nothing wrong with loading up a bunch at one time either.
