Really had no intention of getting one but was on Aristocob's website where it stated the new FDA regulations will more than likely stop them from offering their pipe mud. I was gearing up to try an experiment when I saw I only had one bag of pipe mud so I ordered 10 bags and threw a cob cigar in the basket as well.

Its cheap enough that I ordered one. I Have been wanting a briar cigar for a while but can not justify the expense.

I'd love to buy one, but first, can anyone here tell me precisely how to properly pack one of these? I have one of the old Mastercraft cigar pipes (body unscrews, as does cap, so can be filled from either end) and no matter what I do-- gentle fill, firm fill, from this or that end, even if I use my pick to poke a hole straight through the middle of the fill-- it will not stay lit for more than about two puffs.

From Marilyn at Missouri Meerschaum
Hi Duane!
Phil said that you should use a fine tobacco in the Cob Cigar. A chunky tobacco just won’t work well. When you pack the Cob Cigar, you should put the tobacco in loosely in the bottom, fill it up and pack down the top just like a regular pipe. You will need to tilt it up and twirl it while you light it to get it evenly lit. Then, just like a regular pipe, tamp it down and light it again. A little beeswax on the tenon of the mouthpiece before you start smoking it will make it easier to remove the bit when you want to. The draft hole in the chamber is very small, so it might plug up on you. It can easily be cleared with a piece of wire.
Thanks again for your order! Enjoy!

I've seem them before, but I still don't get the reasoning behind them. Simply a novelty which one will smoke a few times and then never bother with it again.

The cigar design came from a sparkless, or zeppelin pipe that were supposed to be safe to smoke on very flamable zeppelins.

I've heard that the Vauen Zeppelin pipes, which are relatively thin and have a single hole in the metal tip, smoke well. The Mastercraft "sparkless cigar pipe" is wider, has a large tip with one big hole and three radial slots, and in my experience, must be relit constantly.

Well mine arrived. It is stained orange. Which makes it look like a carrot. It's a little over 5 inches long. I'm planning to smoke it this afternoon.

Mine's orange too. Stem centering is noticeably off, but is smoking Autumn Evening quite well.

Any user reports? How do you like them? I'm still trying to get competent with a standard pipe but this looks pretty interesting.

They stay lit surprisingly well. A bit tricky on the light, find matches work best, but overall pleased. May even buy a briar one based on its performance.

After I stock up on some Red Virginias, and hopefully some Christmas Cheer, I may have to take you up on that.
