My first good Italian pipe was an ascorti business dublin followed by an escort business poker made for tinderbox. Both nice pipes long traded. However, in my view Luigi Radice is the winner out of the caminetto stable both in terms of price and quality. Both Ascorti and their revival of caminetto are seriously overpriced for the quality. I personally hate the new dear carving as it has always reminded me of bad surgical scars (I also hate the Radice version as well for the same reason). Castello exceeds Ascorti and the new caminetto brand. Cavicchi does too. For my money, Radice is the best value and their stem work is superior to all including castello.
Lots of Radice have terrible proportions. Like a big honky bowl with a goofy tapered stem that doesn’t quite fit the aesthetic.

Loved my time (only a 3 month stint) in Auckland in the mid-70s. Kiwis are extremely friendly and welcoming bunch without exception.
I was offered a permanent post but decided to return to Sydney for further training, and sadly I've not been back to NZ since, even though it is but a short hop across the"ditch".
Lots of very fond memories of my time there. One of these days ..........
