Im at college and live away from home and im going home on tuesday for thanksgiving. My parents dont quite care for me smoking so i usually quit while im home out of respect.
Either way im stuck taking a break for a couple days and im not so happy about it. I have to go from about 4 or 5 bowls a day to nothing. Kinda bummed

You could always tell them you are going out for a walk and smoke a bowl away from the house. If you have to quit for a few days though, I'll smoke a few for you.

I quit for 12 days while working on my NaNoWriMo contest entry. I really didn't notice any kind of chemical withdraw. I'll tell you what though: That first smoke on the 12th day? I don't even want to tell you how good it was. :puffy:

Haha, yeah, im not too worried about withdrawel, im more worried about overall stress level, its just that the only place i dont feel comfortable smoking is around my family during the holidays, but that place i probably really need to smoke is....around my family during the holiday... they can be quite a hadful, its like high school drama. its terrible

I know what you mean. My brother is going to be joining us for a few days for Thanksgiving. The last time I pulled out a pipe in front of him, he kept begging me to give him a few of my nicer pipes, and I know darn well what he is going to do with them, and let's just say it's a non-tobacco related activity and leave it at that. Knowing him, he might get the urge to try and steal a few of them, and I'm thinking I might have to lock them up somewhere while he's here. Its a total pain in the neck. Oh well. What are you gonna do?

I too have a problem Pipe Brothers. Helga and I are boarding an AMtrack down at the depot on the 4th and heading to L.A. NO SMOKING on the train. I will have to revert to Beechnut or Redman and Helga will make remarks.

Man up. Tell them what you are doing and then do it outside. I remember that my Mom was not thrilled when I took up a pipe in college and thought it was just a "phase" I'd get over. 40 years later I'm still doing what I want but in defference to my parents (now 86 years old) I go outside to smoke when visiting. They got over it and I got on with it.

Believe me, you'll face tougher decisions in life.

It's terrible that you can't smoke at just the time you feel you need it the most. Faced with that situation

I would probably take some Virginia ribbon leaf and chew on a strand of it just for the grassy sweet taste.

As a teen I had a job that required riding around in an open top vehicle, making a pipe impractical, and the

chew worked out very well. I wouldn't recommend it, or regular chew, as a steady practice though because it's

been correlated with esophageal cancer. Then again, the only guys I know who do chew are all old codgers, so

go figure.

+1 to what papipeguy posted. They will get over it eventually and you can get a nice relaxing pipe in.

IT'S A CATASTROPHE!!!
I was in the same boat with my parents until one day Shaun walked into their house totally forgetting he had a lit pipe in his mouth. He apologized, Dad was cool with it, and we actually had a pipe club meeting at my Mom's kitchen table. If Shaun smokes an English over there now, Dad will make non- PG remarks, but he vastly prefers it over the coffin nails the siblings smoke. Dad says hugging my sister makes him gag from the stench of Newports, but hugging me is a nice blend of female, perfume, and undertones of tobacco.
You never know what they'll think until you try. My Dad's side of the family get togethers include airline bottles of liquor smuggled in my purse and Xanax. A pipe would probably be preferable to my unfiltered mouth. ;)

Im not saying that they dont know that i smoke a pipe. Im actually VP of a pipe club full of ppeople 20-40 years older than me and both my parents and they think that is funny, they just dont like me doing it, around my little brother and everything. And its more so that they can worry about dealing with my pre teen acting family, instead of me. Its my own choice, just not a happy one

I'm in the same boat man, my Dad smokes cigars, and knows about my pipes and is fine with it, but my Mother would have a cow if she knew.
I'm 21, and her opinion is not going to change anything, but I find it easier to refrain when at home anyways, she can know when I have my own place and she's not paying rent anymore. I'll make do for a couple days

Amtrack only allows smoking on "car train" whatever that is. I used to be able to put a wad of beechnut in my jaw and fly from Boston to Chicago without spitting...I won't have a problem just can't kiss Helga til after I brush my teeth.
