I was just curious... So, you weren't talking about bowl sizes... and I wasn't sure if I may have missed something in the exchanges that would indicate what size pipe the guy was smoking. Thanks for the explanation.
All great advice above. I would add that you should keep your patience and perspective. It can take a while before you get it all down: moisture level, packing, smoking cadence. Just keep experimenting knowing that you’re gonna have plenty of unpleasant bowls before you figure it out.
I had the same problem when i started. I started with a cob and an aromatic from my local b&m. It all starts with the pack job and lighting. As everyone said, slow down and sip your pipe. Your technique will eventually be fine tuned. I would advise to not over think or stress out about not getting enough flavour or smoke.
Oh, and there is a Catch 22 that some new pipe smokers fall for. You might not think that you are getting any flavors, so you puff harder, trying to get more flavors, which makes the pipe burn hotter burning your taste buds, making it so that you can't taste anything. So, resist the urge to take bigger puffs. This can lead to burns on your tongue, no fun.
