And JM is pretty tight lipped, although on my last visit he did concede that he uses black cavendish in a lot of blends. Sadly I'm not very discerning in my tobacco tasting.

He is tight-lipped, isn't he? I'm afraid that at some point this is going to hurt their business, as the trend among pipe smokers these days is to seek more transparency in what they are smoking (at least a list of ingredients, if not the proportions or propietary details). Not many manufacturers give you enough information to re-create their blends, but an accurate list of the contents is becoming more and more commonplace.

Dochudson -- I agree with you, but a lot of pipe smokers seem to REALLY care about what a blend contains, especially if it contains some type of flavoring/topping. I think it's a ridiculous obsessions (especially since virtually all pipe tobaccos are cased somewhere in the processing), but some guys flip their lids if there's even a suggestion of flavoring. Anyhow, this trend just mimics what many consumers now demand of their food and drinks. It might be true that you don't need to know what's on your pizza to enjoy it, but a lot of people really like to know the ingredients.

JM was very concerned about the FDA investigating and trying to restrict his use of casings on the aromatic blends. It seems they definitely want to know what is being applied to the tobacco.

Upon Cajun's recommendation I mixed up a small batch of "Carter Woods" last night. Cajun found a winner with this one. Damn fine smoke for sure!
