Deer tongue, rabbit tobacco, raspberry leaves, Valerian, tonquin beans, etc... there is lots of non tobacco stuff in our tobaccos.
The problem I have with this post is the way they may be smoked,whether mixed in a historical tobacco Kinnikinnick or smoked for some medicinal purpose.

I don't see someone just mixing up a bunch of dried twigs and berries and smoking it like a pipe full of pipe tobacco. Usually the medicinal; intake of this type of stuff is smoked like pot, short bursts of smoke and inhaled.
Whatever the heat of this type of medicinal nuts and herbs, it never reaches the same temperatures as pipe tobacco, because it is only burning in short bursts. This is why marijuana smokers can get away with using glass, metal, apples, pine, beer cans, and paper pipes.
OK, there must be somewhere else that smokers of that sort can discuss these types of issues. :puffy:
