Not to bash guys who don't shave but that first 20 days or so you look like a scrub.
LOL ... luckily that was 25 years ago!

To the best of my Google-fu, Movember is the real deal, started in 1999 by a group of young men in Adelaide, South Australia.

That story pre-dates any knowledge that I had of people not shaving in November.

It cracks me up when someone who don't even know you looks at you like you're scrubby, dirty & homeless because you have a beard. And it will invariably come from a man who couldn't grow a beard if his life depended on it!

Like do it around the hockey playoffs and tie it into that at least, you could get the NHL probably sponsoring it.
Most of the teams that make the playoffs set up a donations site that people can donate to cancer research in a guy's name for growing a beard out for his team during the playoffs. Not sure if it's typically for prostrate cancer or cancer in general. I do know the NHL has a Hockey Fights Cancer foundation.

I've had a closely trimmed beard for 5 years. Usually in November I let it grow more full just for fun. I do still have to stay neatly groomed, as I work in a professional environment with dress and decorum standards.

I just spent October trying to sneak out the beard. My wife seems to be okay with it and the boss hasn't said anything. He has no rules against the beard, he just seems to think clean shaven is more professional. That being said, I'll take advantage of November to get some extra length!

I use november as an excuse to grow the sleeziest 70's porn star looking moustache, my gf hates it but my uncle died from prostate cancer on my birthday 10 years ago so I get a pass

Had a boss like that once. He was one of those guys who could not grow one.

He was also a major hypocrite as I found out later.
