The guy that intrigues me is Mark Balcovek, after seeing him interact with Jack Hackert in a youtube video.

He seems to be awfully good.

Since this thread got going I have obtained a Stanwell (brushed black)and a Peterson is in the mail.
One that I don't see mentioned is Jess Chonowitsch.

If you can find one, the old Danish factory pipe, the Bari, has the soul of a fine artisanal pipe. I think the brand is defunct, but if you can find a good example, in a shape you like, that has been well maintained, buy it. My late wife's aunt gave me one for Christmas more than 30 years ago, and it still smokes like a dream. And looks great.
And a Ferndown. Great handmade English pipes.
